The Reference Check feature in Hirex allows you to collect professional feedback from a candidate’s past colleagues or managers during the hiring process.
1. Creating a Reference Question Set
To begin, go to Settings > Reference Checks. Click Add New to create a new question set.
Give your set a clear and descriptive title.
Add your questions one by one. These will be the questions you'll ask the reference contact later.
2. Asking Candidates to Provide References
Go to the candidate’s profile page and click the (...) More button.
Select Reference Check from the dropdown menu.
Enter how many references you want to collect (e.g., 1, 2, 3).
Click Send to deliver the reference request to the candidate.
3. Candidate Experience
The candidate will receive an email that contains a link to the reference form.
Once the candidate clicks the link, they’ll see a form where they need to provide the following information for each reference:
Full Name
Email Address
Phone Number
Company
Position
Relationship
After completing the form, the candidate clicks Submit.
4. Conducting the Reference Interview
Once the candidate submits the form, you will receive an email notification.
Navigate to the candidate profile and open the Reference Checks tab.
You’ll see all provided references and contact informations.
Click Start Interview next to a reference.
Choose the appropriate question set.
Click Start Interview to begin.
Enter your notes and responses in the fields provided.
When finished, click Save Interview. You’ll return to the Reference Checks tab where you can click View Interview to review your notes.

Q: Can I ask for more than one reference?
A: Yes, you can request as many references as needed. Just specify the desired number when sending the form to the candidate.
Q: Can I edit my reference check interview notes after saving them?
A: Yes, you can return to the completed interview and edit your notes anytime.
