What is AI Evaluation?
Hirex AI reads each candidate's CV and scores it against a set of criteria you define for the job. The result is a 0–100 matching score and a verdict so you can quickly identify strong candidates without reading every CV manually.
AI evaluation has two parts:
Criteria defined at the job level, once, and applied to every applicant
Evaluation run per applicant, on demand, against the active criteria
Setting Up Criteria for a Job
Before you can score any candidate, you need to define what a good candidate looks like for this role.
Open the job posting.
Go to the AI Evaluation tab (labelled AI Eval or AI Review in the job tabs).
Click Generate with AI to let Hirex generate criteria from the job description automatically.
Or, if you prefer to build manually:
Click Add Manually to start with a blank criteria set.
Click Add Criterion and fill in the name and description.
AI-generated criteria are created from your job description for best results, write a detailed job description before generating.
Understanding Criteria
Criterion types
Type | What it means |
AI generated (sparkle icon) | Created automatically by Hirex AI from the job description |
Manually added (person icon) | Added by your team from scratch |
AI generated + edited (pencil icon) | Started as AI-generated, then manually edited |
Criterion weight
Each criterion has a weight that affects how much it contributes to the overall score:
Weight | Score multiplier |
High | 3× strongly influences the final score |
Medium | 2× moderate influence |
Low | 1× minor influence |
Required (Must-Have) criteria
Mark a criterion as Required to make it a hard filter. If a candidate does not meet all required criteria, a "Missing must-haves" warning appears regardless of their overall score. Use this for non-negotiable qualifications (e.g., specific certification, work authorization).
Evaluating a Candidate's CV
Open the candidate's application.
Click the AI Review tab.
If a CV is attached and criteria are active, click Evaluate CV.
Hirex AI reads the CV and returns a score in seconds. The tab updates automatically.
Evaluation requires a CV and an active criteria set. If either is missing, you'll see a prompt explaining what to add.
Reading the Score
Overall score and verdict
Score | Verdict |
80–100 | Strong fit |
60–79 | Mixed fit |
40–59 | Weak fit |
0–39 | Poor fit |
Any score, missing must-haves | Missing must-haves (shown in red regardless of score) |
Per-criterion results
Below the score, every criterion is listed with one of four outcomes:
Outcome | What it means |
Meets | Candidate clearly meets this criterion |
Partially meets | Some evidence found, but not fully met |
Does not meet | No evidence found in the CV |
Insufficient evidence | The CV does not contain enough information to judge |
Must-have criteria are grouped at the top. Click any criterion row to expand the AI's reasoning what it was looking for, what it found (or didn't find), and any relevant evidence from the CV.
Re-evaluating
If you update the criteria or a new version of the CV is uploaded, you can re-run the evaluation. Click Re-evaluate on the AI Review tab. A two-click confirmation prevents accidental re-evaluations (each evaluation uses AI credits).
Talent Pool Scan
Aside from evaluating individual applicants, you can scan your entire talent pool against a job's criteria to find matching candidates who haven't applied yet.
Open the job's AI Evaluation tab.
Click Scan Talent Pool.
Hirex scans all candidates in your organization and returns the top matches with their scores.
Click Add to Job next to any candidate to add them to this job's pipeline.
