Video Interview

Video interviews let you screen candidates asynchronously — candidates record their answers to your questions on their own time, and your team reviews the recordings when it’s convenient. No scheduling needed for the first round.

How Video Interviews Work

The process has two parts:

  1. Create a Video Interview template a set of questions that can be reused across multiple jobs.

  2. Invite candidates send the template to one or multiple candidates from their profile or in bulk from the pipeline.

Candidates receive an email with a private link, record their responses using their webcam, and submit. You and your team can then watch, score, and comment on the recordings inside Hirex.

Creating a Video Interview Template

  1. Go to Settings → Video Interviews.

  2. Click New Video Interview.

  3. Give the template a name (e.g., “Sales Rep First Round”).

  4. Add an optional introduction message this will be shown to candidates before they start recording.

  5. Add your questions. For each question, you can set: Think time, Max answer length, Number of retakes.

  6. Click Save.

Inviting a Candidate

  1. Open the candidate’s profile from the pipeline.

  2. Click Send Video Interview (or find it in the candidate actions menu).

  3. Select the Video Interview template you want to send.

  4. Set an optional expiration date the candidate must complete the interview before this date.

  5. Click Send Invitation. The candidate will receive an email with their unique link.

Reviewing Responses

Once a candidate completes their interview, you’ll receive a notification. To review:

  1. Open the candidate’s profile.

  2. Find the Video Interview section in the activity feed or the candidate card.

  3. Click View Responses to watch the recorded answers.

  4. You can add a score and leave comments visible to your hiring team.

Invitation Statuses

  • Pending - Invitation sent, candidate hasn’t started yet.

  • In Progress - Candidate has started but not submitted.

  • Completed - All answers recorded and submitted. ✅

  • Expired - The expiration date passed before the candidate finished.

  • Cancelled - Invitation cancelled by the recruiter.

⚠️ Note: Expired invitations cannot be re-opened. You’ll need to send a new invitation if the candidate still needs to complete the interview.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I send the same video interview to multiple candidates at once?

Yes. From the pipeline view, select multiple candidates, then use the bulk actions menu to send a video interview invitation to all of them simultaneously.

What happens if a candidate’s recording fails?

The candidate can retry as long as their invitation hasn’t expired and they have retakes remaining for that question.
